E68 – Laura Burton / The Online Sales Results Lady

Laura Burton is an internet marketing specialist who has been able to increase the sales and online presence of thousands of businesses. She attributes her success to the way she interacts with people as she prioritizes asking the right questions to best understand the client and their business.

Learning the Tricks of the Trade

After spending nearly ten years in marketing, Laura has researched and experienced her way into knowing how to get results and sales for her clients by making them feel valued and meeting their needs.

Laura first got into marketing because she loved writing but she wanted to do more, which led her to figure out what clients were looking for in terms of marketing. As technology changed, Laura kept ahead of the curve and kept promoting its use to people in order to better market their business online through platforms such as Facebook.

As she continued to learn how to reach people, she was also researching marketing strategies that had “stood the test of time.” She read about strategies even as far back as the 1800s and 1900s from famous businessmen such as P.T. Barnum. Because some methods from those eras are still in use today, she decided to write a book called 12 Secret Sales Hacks that Have Stood the Test of Time in order to provide this useful information to others.

Asking and Understanding

Aside from these time-tested secrets, Laura’s One Big Tip when strategizing is to “ask the right questions when you are going to be talking to a prospect.” For her, it’s more than just the service you can provide for them, it’s also about how your solution can accomplish their goals and is in line with their vision.

This is important because, according to her, “the strategy of what you're going to do is going to be a little different based on the goal.” While some questions will be standard, such as “tell me about your business”, it’s important to personalize your interaction with the client.

For example, taking the time to make the client feel special, give them creative ideas, and encourage them in their business helps to build a relationship where, as Laura states, “when they implement what you're doing, they're going to be successful and stay with you forever.”
