After slaving away in the corporate world for a decade with nothing to show for it, I realized that I was wasting my time building someone else’s dream. I was tired of a revolving door of desk jobs that could never satisfy my financial or personal goals. I was disillusioned by the awards stacking up around me telling me that I was special when my paycheck and responsibilities never seemed to reflect the same.
I started working on side hustles to fill that void in my life and my paycheck, but I was a new dad and getting my degrees. I barely had enough time in the day as it was. I was constantly looking for new opportunities to grow and shine, but I had an itch that I couldn’t scratch. So I put my skills to good work. Thanks to my productivity, I finished my “work” by noon each day and was able to dedicate the rest of my time at my 9-5 to building new skills and finding a client base.
It’s really easy to tie your identity to your job - particularly if you’ve held that job for a long time. I realized I was on a cycle that was not working for me and the lifestyle I wanted. I needed more work:life balance. I realized I have valuable and actionable skills that the market will pay for, so I took the chance. Instead of building someone else’s dream, I decided to build my own.
Did I get it right on the first try? No, just ask my real estate venture. But I didn’t stop trying, and I kept finding new things that I loved and could make me money. And as my client base and their needs grew, my skills grew too. I started finding ways to create residual income and recurring income. I wanted to work smarter, not harder.
I constantly challenge myself to get to where I am. I now manage teams of people all around the world. I have a business that allows me to be location independent. I get to control my financial success. And now I have a wealth of knowledge to share with you. To motivate you to get off your ass and get it done.
It’s not an easy or clear-cut path. This is why I created The One Big Tip Podcast. I am connecting my listeners with entrepreneurs who have a story to tell about their winding road to success. Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, but it doesn’t have to. My hope is this podcast will offer examples of best practices and resources that will help position you for success and living your dream.
